Like some other reviewers have mentioned there is a huge design flaw with the way the foot rest hooks into the base. I received the footrest as a gift for Christmas and after 3 months of use the plastic tab that keeps the footrest in the groove of the base snapped.

This item is not even OK for the price. The foot rest is made of two pieces and there are tabs/slots to allow the foot rest surface to slide forward and back on the base. This is a very poor design of tab/slot.
We bought several of these for the people in our office. After only a couple of weeks ALL OF THEM have broken. The tabs bust off and then the footrest section won't stay in place. We think some of the damage was caused by over zealous cleaning people but we definitely had breakage by users during what should be considered normal use. I broke one 3 days after setting it up and then two days later the other tab broke.
USELESS WASTE OF MONEY.
And even more aggravating because a metal based unit that would NOT break in this fashion is no longer available and it was actually 2 dollars LESS than this product.
CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

Though the footrest does slip out/off easily if you physically pick up the foot rest and move it, it is easily re-assembled. Annoying but doable.
I would think this works best on carpet, which is where I use it. I find it the perfect height for me. I need to raise my chair very high so I sit comfortably at my desk and this allows my feet to "touch the floor".
Personally, I love the forward and back motion of the footrest because I sit for long periods of time and it reminds me to move my legs more during that time frame.
I have always brought my own, homemade footrest to all three of my offices, but this last move the company bought one for me.

Concept is nice, that the foot rest is adjustable, however the plastic isn't strong. The little tabs holding the foot stool in place and on the 'track' to move broke right away and the entire thing was useless.
